Fayḍ al-ʿalām fī ʿamal al-shuhūr wa waqāyiʿ al-ayyām (Arabic: فیْضُ العَلام فی عَمَل الشُّهور و وَقایعِ الْاَیّام, literally: the grace of the Omniscient about practices of months and events of days) is a Persian treatise concerning days and nights of the twelve lunar months written by Shaykh 'Abbas Qummi (d. 1359/1941).

The treatise was written in 1331/1912-3 in Qom. It mentions virtues and practices, and then some events, of each lunar month. In the end, the author mentions virtues and practices of the eve and the day of Friday. It is also known as Waqayi' al-ayyam (events of days). The author has summarized the treatise under Hidayat al-anam ila waqayi' al-ayyam (guiding people to events of days).

'Abbas b. Muhammad Rida al-Qummi (b. 1294/1877-8 - d. 1359/1941), known as Shaykh 'Abbas Qumi and Muhaddith Qummi, was a Shiite scholar of the fourteenth/twentieth century. He was well-known in hadiths and history as well as preaching and orations.

Shaykh Abbas Qummi wrote many books, the best-known of which are Mafatih al-jinan, Safinat al-bihar, and Muntaha al-amal. He died in Najaf in 1359/1941 and was buried in the Holy Shrine of Imam Ali (a).

The book is written in the order of the lunar months. After a short introduction, the author first mentions common practices of all months, and then exclusive practices of each month, pointing to events of each day of each month in order. Although lunar months begin with Muharram, the author opens the book with Ramadan, following the practice of al-Shaykh al-Mufid and al-Shaykh al-Tusi in mentioning monthly practices. Moreover, al-Qummi adds his own comments and research after "the poor [this servant of God] says" or "a marginal note from him". The book was published in Qom in 1331/1912-3. Selections of the book were published by al-Muhaddith al-Qummi himself under Hidayat al-anam ila waqa'i' al-ayyam.

Motivation for Writing

In his introduction to Fayd al-'alam, al-Qummi makes it explicit that he intended to write the treatise in a brief way that would include the materials of Misbah al-mutahajjid and Misbah al-Kaf'ami. He also points out the method of writing, contents, and sections of the books in the introduction.
