The list of Companions of Imam al-Rida (a) contains people mentioned in Shiite sources as Imam al-Rida's (a) deputy or students or transmitters of his hadiths.

Number

In his Rijal, al-Shaykh al-Tusi has mentioned 320 people under "Ashab Abi l-Hasan al-Thani 'Ali b. Musa al-Rida". Of more recent scholars, 'Atarudi has mentioned 321 people in his Musnad al-Imam al-Rida (a), and Qurashi has mentioned 367 people in his Hayat al-Imam 'Ali b. Musa al-Rida. Muhammad Mahdi Najaf, the author of al-Jami' lil-ruwat wa ashab al-Imam al-Rida (a), has mentioned 831 people from difference Shiite sources as transmitters of hadiths from, and companions of, Imam al-Rida (a).

1. Ahmad b. Muhammad b. Abi Nasr al-Bazanti; (b.152/769 - d.221/836), one of the early Imami scholars in Kufa, and a companion of Imam al-Kazim (a), Imam al-Rida (a), and Imam al-Jawad (a).
2. Al-Hasan b. Mahbub; (d. 224/839), was a companion of Imam al-Kazim (a), Imam al-Rida (a), and Imam al-Jawad (a). He is one of the great figures in hadith and fiqh. His name appears in the chains of transmission of many hadiths in the Four Books.
3. Muhammad b. Abi 'Umayr; (d. 217/832-3) known as Ibn Abī Umayr was a grand Twelver hadith narrator. His mursal narrations are accepted similar to his musnad narrations by most of rijal scholars.
4. 'Abd Allah b. al-Mughira; a companion of Imam al-Kazim (a) and Imam al-Rida (a). The scholars of rijal regard him as a trustworthy hadith transmitter and praise his righteousness and piety.
5. Safwan b. Yahya al-Bajali; a companion of Imam al-Kazim (a), a deputy of Imam al-Rida (a), and Imam al-Jawad (a).
6. Hammad b. 'Uthman; (d. 190/805-6), a Shi'a Hadith scholar, narrator, and jurist.
7. Yunus b. 'Abd al-Rahman; one of the companions of Imam al-Kazim (a) and Imam al-Rida (a). He met Imam al-Baqir (a) and Imam al-Sadiq (a), but he only transmitted hadith from Imam al-Kazim (a) and Imam al-Rida (a). He is praised in rijal sources.
8. Faddala b. Ayyub; was a companion of Imam al-Kazim (a) and Imam al-Rida (a) and a reliable Shiite narrator of hadiths. He wrote works such as Kitab al-salat and Kitab al-nawadir.
9. Hasan b. Ali b. Faddal; a reliable (Thiqa) Shi'a narrator and a close companion of Imam al-Rida (a). He had the opportunity to meet Imam al-Kazim (a), as well.
10. Jamil b. Darraj; an outstanding Shi'a hadith transmitter, hadith scholar, and faqih of the 2/8century. After the demise of Imam al-Kazim (a), He became a Waqifi for a short time but soon he changed his mind and became one of the companions of Imam al-Rida (a).
11. Hammad b. 'Isa al-Juhani; (d. 209/824-825) a companion of Imam al-Sadiq (a), Imam al-Kazim (a), Imam al-Rida (a), and Imam al-Jawad (a). More than 1,500 hadiths are quoted from Hammad in Shi'a hadith sources.

1. Al-Husayn b. Sa'id al-Ahwazi; a companion of Imam al-Rida (a), Imam al-Jawad (a), and Imam al-Hadi (a). He was a jurist and Muhaddith, together with his brother al-Hasan, composed important jurisprudential and hadith works.
2. Al-Hasan b. Sa'id al-Ahwazi; a companion of Imam al-Rida (a) and the brother of al-Husayn b. Sa'id al-Ahwazi. He was born in Kufa, but he later immigrated to Ahvaz and lived there. He was alive until 220/835. He is considered as a reliable transmitter of hadiths by scholars of rijal.
3. Rayyan b. Salt; a prominent Shi'a muhaddith in the 2nd/8th, and 3rd/9th centuries.
4. Dawud b. Sulayman al-Ghazi; an Imami transmitter of hadith in the 2nd/8th and 3rd/9th centuries, and a companion of Imam al-Rida (a) who met the Imam (a) when he (a) was traveling through Qazvin.
5. Dawud b. Kathir al-Raqqi; an Imami prolific transmitter of hadiths in the 2nd/8th century and a companion of Imam al-Sadiq (a), Imam al-Kazim (a), and Imam al-Rida (a). He transmitted many hadiths concerning theology, fiqh, the exegesis of the Holy Qur'an, and ethics.
6. Rayyan b. Shabib; a the companion of Imam al-Rida (a) and Imam al-Jawad (a).
7. Muhammad b. Jumhur al-'Ammi; (210/825-6) known as Ibn Jumhur was among Shi'a scholars of hadiths and literature and among special companions of Imam al-Rida (a) who has narrated hadiths from him.
8. 'Ali b. Isma'il al-Maythami; known as Ibn Maytham, was a Shiite theologian in the 2nd/8th and 3rd/9th centuries who transmitted hadiths from Imam al-Rida (a). According to Ibn Nadim, he was the first person who did theology in accordance to the principles of Imamiyya.

1. Abu l-Salt al-Hirawi; (b. about 160/776 d.236/851), a close companion of Imam al-Rida (a) and a scholar of hadiths and kalam (theology).
2. Ishaq b. Imam al-Kazim (a); one of the children of Imam Musa al-Kazim (a). According to historical reports, he and his brother Imam al-Rida (a) went to Merv and then in the same year Imam al-Rida (a) was called crown prince returned to Hijaz as Amir al-hajj.
3. Fatima al-Ma'suma; the daughter of Imam al-Kazim (a). She is a highly esteemed and virtuous lady of Ahl al-Bayt (a).
4. Di'bil b. 'Ali al-Khuza'i; one of the companions of Imam Musa b. Ja'far and Imam al-Rida (a)[1]. He also had the chance to meet Imam al-Jawad (a).
5. Ahmad b. Imam al-Kazim (a); known in Iran as Shāhchirāgh and also as Sayyid al-Sādāt al-Aʿāẓim, was one of Imam Musa al-Kazim's (a) sons.
6. Hamza b. Imam al-Kazim (a); a son of Imam al-Kazim (a). He was a knowledgeable scholar and was especially popular among people. According to some reports, companions of al-Ma'mun killed him.
7. 'Ali b. Mahziyar al-Ahwazi; was among close companions of Imam al-Jawad (a) and Imam al-Hadi (a) and was their agents in some regions.
8. Husayn b. Musa b. Ja'far (a); one of the children of Imam Musa al-Kazim (a) and the brother of Imam al-Rida (a). He was among transmitters of hadiths and transmitted hadiths from Imam al-Kazim (a), Imam al-Rida (a) and his mother.
9. Zakariyya b. Adam al-Ash'ari al-Qummi; an Imami muhaddith in the 2nd/8th and 3rd/9th centuries and a companion of Imam al-Sadiq (a). He transmitted hadiths from Imam al-Kazim (a), and was a representative of Imam al-Rida (a) and Imam al-Jawad (a) in Qom.
10. Zakariyya b. Idris; known as Abū Jarīr al-Qummī was among Shia scholar of hadith in the 2nd/8th and 3rd/9th centuries and a companion of Imam al-Sadiq (a), Imam al-Kazim (a) and Imam al-Rida (a).
11. 'Abd Allah b. Imam al-Kazim (a); known as ʿAbd Allāh al-ʿAwkalānī, was a son of Imam Musa al-Kazim (a).
