Muḥammad b. Ismaʿīl b. ʿAbd al-Jabbār al-Ḥāʾirī (Arabic: مُحَمَّد بن اسماعيل بن عَبدالجَبّار الحائِري) (b. 1159/1746-7 d. 1215/1800-1 1216/1801-2), known as Abū ʿAlī al-Ḥāʾirī, was a Shi'a faqih (jurist) and scholar of 'ilm al-rijal of 13th/17th century. He was a student of Wahid al-Bihbahani, Sayyid 'Ali Tabatab'i, Sayyid Muhsin al-A'raji al-Kazimi, and Sayyid Muhammad Mahdi Bahr al-'Ulum. He is the author of the book Muntaha l-maqal fi ahwal al-rijal.
Birth and Lineage
His father was from the north region of Iran, but he was born in Karbala, Iraq. He was less than ten years old, when his father passed away. According to his father's saying, Abu Ali said that his lineage reaches Ibn Sina (Avicenna); but considering that Ibn Sina did not have any child, this lineage is dubious.
