Abū Muḥammad Taqī al-Dīn al-Ḥasan b. 'Alī b. Dāwūd al-Ḥillī (Arabic: ابومحمد تقیالدین الحسن بن علی بن داود الحلی) (b. 647/1249 - d. after 707/1307-8), known as Ibn Dāwūd al-Ḥillī (ابن داوود الحلی), was a Shiite scholar of rijal, fiqh, Arabic literature, and a poet in the 7th/13th century. Ibn Dawud was contemporary with al-'Allama al-Hilli. His best-known work is Kitab al-Rijal. His prominent teachers include al-Muhaqqiq al-Hilli, al-Sayyid Jamal al-Din Ahmad b. Tawus, and al-Sayyid 'Abd al-Karim b. al-Sayyid Ahmad b. Tawus.
Life
Ibn Dawud al-Hilli was born on Jumada II 5, 647/September 15, 1249.
The place of his birth is not mentioned in biographical sources, but since he studied with prominent scholars of Hillah, he must have spent most of his life and grown in this city. However, since Ibn Dawud called his teacher, Ibn Tawus, "Baghdadi l-tahsil" (a person who studied in Baghdad) and said that he accompanied him until his death, he must have also stayed in Baghdad for a while. Moreover, according to a verse of his poem, 'Aqd al-jawahir, he was in Kadhimiya in Dhu l-Qa'da 700 (July 1301), and according to another poem of his, Manhaj al-taqwim, he said that he enjoyed the blessing of living in Najaf.
Ibn Dawud died after 707/1307-8.
Teachers
Ibn Dawud was known in permissions and other works as "Sultan al-'Ulama' wa l-Bulagha'" (the king of scholars and orators) and "Taj al-muhaddithin wa l-fuqaha'" (the crown of the scholars of hadiths and fiqh). Al-Shahid al-Thani is quoted as saying that "Ibn Dawud traveled a path in 'ilm al-rijal which was not traveled by any Shiite scholar".

- His best-known work is Kitab al-Rijal known as Rijal.
- Urjuza fi l-kalam: it is a collection of poems (145 verses) regarding Shiite principles of beliefs.
- 'Aqd al-jawahir fi l-ashbah wa l-naza'ir. In its published version, the book is called "Jawahir al-kalam fi l-ashbah wa l-naza'ir". It is a collection of poems (1309 verses) composed on Dhu l-Qa'da 10, 700/July 17, 1301) in Kadhimiya.
- Al-Manhaj al-qawim fi taslim al-taqdim is a collection of poems (201 verses) narrating the story of debates concerning the most competent caliph after the Prophet Muhammad (s) which occurred in a meeting of scholars from different sects in Baghdad.
