Faḍaʾil al-Shīʿa (Arabic:فضائل الشيعة) written by al-Shaykh al-Saduq (d. 381/991-2) who was among Shi'a scholars of jurisprudence and hadith in 4th/10th century. In this book, he has mentioned hadiths from Imams (a) about the position of Shi'a and has discussed that they are the only followers of the path of truth and true followers of the Prophet (s). The hadiths in the book are generally about moral issues and beliefs.

About the Author

Muhammad b. Ali b. Husayn b. Musa b. Babiwayh al-Qummi known as al-Shaykh al-Saduq was among the scholars of 4th/10th century. The date of his birth was 305/917-8. He passed away in 381/991-2 and was buried in Rey. He was among the greatest scholars in jurisprudence and hadith of the hadith school of Qom. He had about 300 scientific works, many of which are lost. Man la yahduruh al-faqih among the Four Books, is one of his works.

Goal of Writing

After the demise of the Prophet of Islam (s), caliphs tried to keep away the Ahl al-Bayt (a) from the society. They massacred the followers (Shi'a) of the Ahl al-Bayt (a) or martyred them under torture in prisons. They also made a great propagation against Shi'a and called them Rafidi, meaning "those who abandoned the main way of people."

Al-Shaykh al-Saduq is also known as one of the greatest Shi'a transmitters of hadith and wrote this book according to his position.
