Khawla bt. Manẓūr b. Dhabbān al-Fazārī (Arabic: خَوْلَة بنت مَنْظُور بن ذَبّان الفَزاري) was Imam al-Hasan's (a) wife and al-Hasan al-Muthanna's mother. She was first married to Muhammad b. Talha, and when he was killed in the Battle of Jamal, she married Imam al-Hasan (a).

Biography

Khawla was the daughter of al-Manzur b. Zabban b. Sayyar b. 'Amr al-Fazari and the wife of Imam Hasan al-Mujtaba (a). She was first married to Muhammad b. Talha, and when he was killed in the Battle of Jamal, she married Imam Hasan al-Mujtaaba (a). She is the mother of Hasan b. Hasan or al-Hasan al-Muthanna.[1] Khawla's mother was Malika bt. Kharija b. Sanan.[2]

Her sister, Tamadur, was 'Abd Allah b. Zubayr's wife. When Khawla's first husband was killed, in the absence of Khawla's father, 'Abd Allah b. Zubayr suggested Imam al-Hasan (a) to marry her, and the Imam (a) accepted it. It is said that when her father learned about it, he was first unhappy with it, but he finally agreed.[3]

According to Abu l-Faraj al-Isfahani, she was in Imam al-Hasan's (a) house until his martyrdom, or she was divorced by the Imam (a).[4] However, Abu l-Faraj speculates that she was the Imam's (a) wife until his martyrdom. It was explicitly mentioned by some historians.[5] Given the report by some historians according to which she was very sad after the Imam's (a) demise, it is very probable that she was the Imam's (a) wife until his death.

Children

Khawla had three children from her first husband, Muhammad b. Talha, called Ibrahim, Dawud, and Umm Qasim. Her child from Imam al-Hasan (a) was also called Hasan and was known as al-Hasan al-Muthanna.[6]
