Prayer of Sunday in Dhu l-Qa'da

Prayer of Sunday in Dhu l-Qa'da is four rak'as of prayer recommended to be performed on one of the Sundays of Dhu l-Qa'da. Many merits are mentioned in hadiths for it, including forgiveness of sins and dying while having faith.

Method of Prayer

For performing this prayer, a person should perform ghusl on one of the Sundays of Dhu l-Qa'da and perform wudu (or perform wudu before ghusl) and then perform two two-rak'a prayers, each simliar to a fajr prayer with the intention of the prayer of Sunday in Dhu l-Qa'da. One should recite Qur'an 1 once, Qur'an 112 three times, Qur'an 114 once and then Qur'an 113 once in each rak'a. After the four rak'as, one should repent (saying a dhikr such as Astaghfirullah-a wa atub-u ilayh) seventy times, and say the dhikr La hawl-a wa la quwwat-a illa billah once and then recite the following supplication, "Ya 'Aziz-u ya Ghaffar-u-ghfir-li dhunubi wa dhunub-a jami' al-mu'minin wa-l-mu'minat-I fa innah-u la yaghfir-u-dhunub-a illa ant."[1]

Merits of the Prayer

Many rewards are mentioned for this prayer including a hadith from the Holy Prophet (s), "whoever performs this prayer, his repentance will be accepted, his sins will be forgiven, his enemies on the Day of Judgment will be satisfied, he will die having faith, his religion and faith will not be taken away from him, his grave will become wide and illuminated, his parents will be pleased with him, God's forgiveness will include his parents and his descendants, his daily sustenance will increase, the angel of death will be easy on him upon dying, he will pass away easily, etc."[2]

Time of the Prayer

The time for performing this prayer is a Sunday in Dhu l-Qa'da at any hour of the day. According to the last phrase of the supplication, if it is performed on a Sunday in other months, it will have the same rewards.[3]

Hadith Source of the Prayer

In Iqbal al-a'mal, section of the recommended actions in the month of Dhu l-Qa'da, Sayyid b. Tawus transmitted a hadith which is the hadith source of this prayer from Anas b. Malik from the Prophet (s).[4]

This hadith is mursal and weak regarding the chain of transmission, but based on the rule of tasamuh in the arguments of traditions, performing this prayer is valid and a person who performs it will achieve the mentioned merits by the will of God.
