Abad wa-llah ma nansa Husayna
Abad wa-llāh mā nansā Ḥusaynā (Arabic: أبد والله ما ننسى حسینا, "By God, we will never forget Husayn") is a poetic phrase recited in elegies for the martyrdom of Imam al-Husayn (a) and during Muharram mourning rituals, including the Tuwairij procession.[1]
Some poets have used this hemistich in their religious compositions[2] and have employed it as a refrain.[3] Additionally, elegy reciters such as Nizar al-Qatari and Basim al-Karbala'i have included this phrase in their performances.[4] Sometimes it has been rendered as "Abad wa-llah lan nansā Husayna."[5], using "lan" instead of "mā". While mā is a simple negation equivalent to "not," lan conveys a stronger, future-oriented negation—emphasizing that we will never forget Husayn (a).
It has also been reported that Iraqi mourners have used this phrase as a rallying cry when facing obstacles and threats to mourning ceremonies for Imam al-Husayn (a), including confrontations with the forces of the Ba'athist regime during the Safar Uprising in Iraq[6] and attacks by ISIS against mourners.[7]
