Lamentation of entering to Karbala is one of the laments for the martyrdom of Imam al-Husayn (a) which is recited in the first ten days of Muharram. This lament is about the story of Imam al-Husayn's (a) entering to Karbala. In mourning gathering for this lament, the lamenter refers to the speech of Imam al-Husayn (a) upon arriving in Karbala when Imam (a) gave news about the events of the next days to come and the hardships of his family. Also, there would be a mention of women getting off their conveyances with the help of the youths of Banu Hashim and the loneliness of Lady Zaynab (a) after the martyrdom of Imam al-Husayn (a) upon getting on the conveyance as a captive.
The Time and Topic of Lament
Imam al-Husayn (a) entered Karbala on Thursday, Muharram 2, 61/October 2, 680 (Days other than Thursday are mentioned in other reports); Therefore, the lament of entering to Karbala is usually recited on the second day of Muharram.
The topic of this lament is the tragic story of Imam al-Husayn's (a) entering Karbala and his speeches upon his entrance. According to some reports, upon entering Karbala, Imam al-Husayn (a) said:
- "Here is the place of Karb (pain) and Bala (trial). Here is the place for our conveyances, packs and camp. Here is the sacrificing place of our men and where our blood spills."
The Content
In this lament, the lamenter tells the story of the movement of Imam al-Husayn (a) from Medina to Mecca and to Karbala and then mentions the speeches of Imam (a) when getting off their conveyances in Karbala and their hardships in the next days. In such a gathering, the lamenter would mention that Imam al-Husayn (a) said, "O God! I take refuge to You from the pain and the trial", and recites elegies. Then, the lamenter would describe the way women of the family of Imam al-Husayn (a) got off their conveyances by the help of the youths of Banu Hashim and mention the loneliness of Lady Zaynab (a) upon getting on the conveyance after the martyrdom of Imam al-Husayn (a) and compare the two situations.
