Muslimiyya Ritual (Persian: آیین مُسلِمیّه) is a three-day mourning ceremony for Muslim b. Aqil held annually on the nights of Dhu l-Hijja 6, 7, and 8 at the Shrine of Abd al-Azim al-Hasani in Rey.[1] This ritual was established in 1891-92 by Haj Marzuq, a cleric from Karbala who went to Iran at the invitation of Hay'at-i Bani Fatima,[2] and it has continued annually until now (2025).[3] Also, according to the public relations of the Abd al-Azim Shrine, the Muslimiyya ritual was registered as an immaterial Cultural Heritage of Iran on February 18, 2020.[4]

Some consider the Muslimiyya ritual to be a religious innovation and believe that adding a new ceremony without religious backing can decline the status of the First Ten Days of Muharram.[5] In contrast, another group, considering the historical acceptance of Muslim's martyrdom, does not regard three days of mourning for him as an alteration and counts it as a prelude to the Mourning of Muharram.[6]
