| In the Name of Allah, the All-beneficent, the All-merciful. |
| When the sky is split open (1) |
| and gives ear to its Lord as it should.
| When the earth is spread out (3) | وَإِذَا الْأَرْضُ مُدَّتْ ﴿٣﴾ |
| and throws out what is in it, emptying itself, (4) | وَأَلْقَتْ مَا فِيهَا وَتَخَلَّتْ ﴿٤﴾ |
| and gives ear to its Lord as it should.
| O man! You are labouring toward your Lord laboriously, and you will encounter Him.
| Then as for him who is given his record in his right hand, (7) |
| he shall soon receive an easy reckoning, (8) | فَسَوْفَ يُحَاسَبُ حِسَابًا يَسِيرًا ﴿٨﴾ |
| and he will return to his folks joyfully.
| But as for him who is given his record from behind his back, (10) | وَأَمَّا مَنْ أُوتِيَ كِتَابَهُ وَرَاءَ ظَهْرِهِ ﴿١٠﴾ |
| he will pray for annihilation, (11) | فَسَوْفَ يَدْعُو ثُبُورًا ﴿١١﴾ |
| and he will enter the Blaze.
| Indeed he used to be joyful among his folk, (13) |
| and indeed he thought he would never return.
| Yes indeed, his Lord sees him best. (15) |
| So I swear by the evening glow, (16) |
| by the night and what it is fraught with, (17) | وَاللَّيْلِ وَمَا وَسَقَ ﴿١٧﴾ |
| by the moon when it blooms full: (18) | وَالْقَمَرِ إِذَا اتَّسَقَ ﴿١٨﴾ |
| you will surely fare from stage to stage.
| So what is the matter with them that they will not believe? (20) |
| And when the Qurʾān is recited to them they will not prostrate? (21) |
| Rather the faithless deny, (22) |
| and Allah knows best what they keep to themselves.
| So warn them of a painful punishment, (24) |
| except such as are faithful and do righteous deeds: there will be an everlasting reward for them.
