In the Name of Allah, the All-beneficent, the All-merciful. | bi-smi llāhi r-raḥmāni r-raḥīm |
What is it about which they question each other?! (1) | ʿamma yatasāʾalūn |
[Is it] about the great tiding, (2) | ʿani n-nabaʾi l-ʿaẓīm |
the one about which they differ?
No indeed! They will soon know! (4) | kallā sa-yaʿlamūn |
Again, no indeed! They will soon know! (5) | thumma kallā sa-yaʿlamūn |
Did We not make the earth a resting place? (6) | ʾa-lam najʿali l-ʾarḍa mihāda |
and the mountains stakes? (7) | wa-l-jibāla ʾawtāda | وَالْجِبَالَ أَوْتَادًا ﴿٧﴾ |
and create you in pairs? (8) | wa-khalaqnākum ʾazwāja | وَخَلَقْنَاكُمْ أَزْوَاجًا ﴿٨﴾ |
and make your sleep for rest?
and make the night a covering?
and make the day for livelihood?
and build above you the seven mighty heavens?
and make [the sun for] a radiant lamp?
and send down water pouring from the rain-clouds, (14) | wa-ʾanzalnā mina l-muʿṣirāti māʾan thajjāja | وَأَنزَلْنَا مِنَ الْمُعْصِرَاتِ مَاءً ثَجَّاجًا ﴿١٤﴾ |
that with it We may bring forth grains and plants, (15) | li-nukhrija bihī ḥabban wa-nabā | لِّنُخْرِجَ بِهِ حَبًّا وَنَبَاتًا ﴿١٥﴾ |
and luxuriant gardens?
Indeed the Day of Judgement is the tryst, (17) | ʾinna yawma l-faṣli kāna mīqāta |
the day the Trumpet will be blown, and you will come in groups, (18) | yawma yunfakhu fī ṣ-ṣūri fa-taʾtūna ʾafwāja | يَوْمَ يُنفَخُ فِي الصُّورِ فَتَأْتُونَ أَفْوَاجًا ﴿١٨﴾ |
and the sky will be opened and become gates, (19) | wa-futiḥati s-samāʾu fa-kānat ʾabwāba | وَفُتِحَتِ السَّمَاءُ فَكَانَتْ أَبْوَابًا ﴿١٩﴾ |
and the mountains will be set moving and become a mirage.
Indeed hell is an ambush, (21) | ʾinna jahannama kānat mirṣāda |
a resort for the rebels, (22) | li-ṭ-ṭāghīna maʾāba | لِّلطَّاغِينَ مَآبًا ﴿٢٢﴾ |
to reside therein for ages, (23) | lābithīna fīhā ʾaḥqāba | لَّابِثِينَ فِيهَا أَحْقَابًا ﴿٢٣﴾ |
tasting in it neither any coolness nor drink, (24) | lā yadhūqūna fīhā bardan wa-lā sharāba | لَّا يَذُوقُونَ فِيهَا بَرْدًا وَلَا شَرَابًا ﴿٢٤﴾ |
except boiling water and pus (25) | ʾillā hamīman wa-ghassāqa | إِلَّا حَمِيمًا وَغَسَّاقًا ﴿٢٥﴾ |
a fitting requital.
Indeed they did not expect any reckoning, (27) | ʾinnahum kānū lā yarjūna ḥisāba |
and they denied Our signs mendaciously, (28) | wa-kadhdhabū bi-ʾāyātinā kidhdhāba | وَكَذَّبُوا بِآيَاتِنَا كِذَّابًا ﴿٢٨﴾ |
and We have figured everything in a Book.
So [now] taste! We shall increase you in nothing but punishment! (30) | fa-dhūqū fa-lan nazīdakum ʾillā ʿadhāba |
Indeed a triumph awaits the God wary: (31) | ʾinna li-l-muttaqīna mafāza |
gardens and vineyards, (32) | ḥadāʾiqa wa-ʾaʿnāba | حَدَائِقَ وَأَعْنَابًا ﴿٣٢﴾ |
and buxom maidens of a like age, (33) | wa-kawāʿiba ʾatrāba | وَكَوَاعِبَ أَتْرَابًا ﴿٣٣﴾ |
and brimming cups.
Therein they shall hear neither vain talk nor lies (35) | lā yasmaʿūna fīhā laghwan wa-lā kidhdhāba |
a reward from your Lord, a bounty sufficing, (36) | jazāʾan min rabbika ʿaṭāʾan ḥisāba | جَزَاءً مِّن رَّبِّكَ عَطَاءً حِسَابًا ﴿٣٦﴾ |
the Lord of the heavens and the earth and whatever is between them, the All-beneficent, whom they will not be able to address (37) | rabbi s-samāwāti wa-l-ʾarḍi wa-mā baynahumā r-raḥmāni lā yamlikūna minhu khiṭāba | رَّبِّ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا الرَّحْمَـٰنِ ۖ لَا يَمْلِكُونَ مِنْهُ خِطَابًا ﴿٣٧﴾ |
on the day when the Spirit and the angels stand in an array. None shall speak except whom the All-beneficent permits and who says what is right.
That is the day of truth. So let anyone who wishes take resort with his Lord. (39) | dhālika l-yawmu l-ḥaqqu fa-man shāʾa ttakhadha ʾilā rabbihī maʾāba | ذَٰلِكَ الْيَوْمُ الْحَقُّ ۖ فَمَن شَاءَ اتَّخَذَ إِلَىٰ رَبِّهِ مَآبًا ﴿٣٩﴾ |
Indeed We have warned you of a punishment near at hand the day when a person will observe what his hands have sent ahead and the faithless one will say," I wish I were dust!"
