In the Name of Allah, the All-beneficent, the All-merciful. bi-smi llāhi r-raḥmāni r-raḥīm
What is it about which they question each other?! (1) ʿamma yatasāʾalūn
[Is it] about the great tiding, (2) ʿani n-nabaʾi l-ʿaẓīm
the one about which they differ?
No indeed! They will soon know! (4) kallā sa-yaʿlamūn
Again, no indeed! They will soon know! (5) thumma kallā sa-yaʿlamūn
Did We not make the earth a resting place? (6) ʾa-lam najʿali l-ʾarḍa mihāda
and the mountains stakes? (7) wa-l-jibāla ʾawtāda وَالْجِبَالَ أَوْتَادًا ﴿٧﴾
and create you in pairs? (8) wa-khalaqnākum ʾazwāja وَخَلَقْنَاكُمْ أَزْوَاجًا ﴿٨﴾
and make your sleep for rest?
and make the night a covering?
and make the day for livelihood?
and build above you the seven mighty heavens? (12) wa-banaynā fawqakum sabʿan shidāda
and make [the sun for] a radiant lamp?
and send down water pouring from the rain-clouds, (14) wa-ʾanzalnā mina l-muʿṣirāti māʾan thajjāja
that with it We may bring forth grains and plants, (15) li-nukhrija bihī ḥabban wa-nabā لِّنُخْرِجَ بِهِ حَبًّا وَنَبَاتًا ﴿١٥﴾
and luxuriant gardens?
Indeed the Day of Judgement is the tryst, (17) ʾinna yawma l-faṣli kāna mīqāta
the day the Trumpet will be blown, and you will come in groups, (18) yawma yunfakhu fī ṣ-ṣūri fa-taʾtūna ʾafwāja
and the sky will be opened and become gates, (19) wa-futiḥati s-samāʾu fa-kānat ʾabwāba
and the mountains will be set moving and become a mirage.
Indeed hell is an ambush, (21) ʾinna jahannama kānat mirṣāda
a resort for the rebels, (22) li-ṭ-ṭāghīna maʾāba
to reside therein for ages, (23) lābithīna fīhā ʾaḥqāba
tasting in it neither any coolness nor drink, (24) lā yadhūqūna fīhā bardan wa-lā sharāba
except boiling water and pus (25) ʾillā hamīman wa-ghassāqa
a fitting requital.
Indeed they did not expect any reckoning, (27) ʾinnahum kānū lā yarjūna ḥisāba
and they denied Our signs mendaciously, (28) wa-kadhdhabū bi-ʾāyātinā kidhdhāba
and We have figured everything in a Book. (29) wa-kulla shayʾin ʾaḥṣaynāhu kitāba
So [now] taste! We shall increase you in nothing but punishment! (30) fa-dhūqū fa-lan nazīdakum ʾillā ʿadhāba
Indeed a triumph awaits the God wary: (31) ʾinna li-l-muttaqīna mafāza
gardens and vineyards, (32) ḥadāʾiqa wa-ʾaʿnāba
and buxom maidens of a like age, (33) wa-kawāʿiba ʾatrāba
and brimming cups.
Therein they shall hear neither vain talk nor lies (35) lā yasmaʿūna fīhā laghwan wa-lā kidhdhāba
a reward from your Lord, a bounty sufficing, (36) jazāʾan min rabbika ʿaṭāʾan ḥisāba
the Lord of the heavens and the earth and whatever is between them, the All-beneficent, whom they will not be able to address (37) rabbi s-samāwāti wa-l-ʾarḍi wa-mā baynahumā r-raḥmāni lā yamlikūna minhu khiṭāba
on the day when the Spirit and the angels stand in an array. None shall speak except whom the All-beneficent permits and who says what is right. (38) yawma yaqūmu r-rūḥu wa-l-malāʾikatu ṣaffan lā yatakallamūna ʾillā man ʾadhina lahu r-raḥmānu wa-qāla ṣawāba
That is the day of truth. So let anyone who wishes take resort with his Lord. (39) dhālika l-yawmu l-ḥaqqu fa-man shāʾa ttakhadha ʾilā rabbihī maʾāba
Indeed We have warned you of a punishment near at hand the day when a person will observe what his hands have sent ahead and the faithless one will say," I wish I were dust!"
