In the Name of Allah, the All-beneficent, the All-merciful. |
Ḥā, Mīm.
By the Manifest Book! (2) |
Indeed We sent it down on a blessed night, and indeed We have been warning [mankind]. (3) |
Every definitive matter is resolved in it, (4) | فِيهَا يُفْرَقُ كُلُّ أَمْرٍ حَكِيمٍ ﴿٤﴾ |
as an ordinance from Us. Indeed We have been sending [apostles], (5) | أَمْرًا مِّنْ عِندِنَا ۚ إِنَّا كُنَّا مُرْسِلِينَ ﴿٥﴾ |
as a mercy from your Lord —indeed He is the All-hearing, the All-knowing— (6) | رَحْمَةً مِّن رَّبِّكَ ۚ إِنَّهُ هُوَ السَّمِيعُ الْعَلِيمُ ﴿٦﴾ |
the Lord of the heavens and the earth, and whatever is between them, should you have conviction.
There is no god except Him: He gives life and brings death, your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers.
Rather they play around in doubt. (9) |
So watch out for the day when the sky brings on a manifest smoke, (10) |
enveloping the people. [They will cry out:] 'This is a painful punishment.
Our Lord! Remove from us this punishment. Indeed we have believed!' (12) |
What will the admonition avail them, when a manifest apostle had already come to them, (13) | أَنَّىٰ لَهُمُ الذِّكْرَىٰ وَقَدْ جَاءَهُمْ رَسُولٌ مُّبِينٌ ﴿١٣﴾ |
but they turned away from him, and said, 'A tutored madman?'
Indeed We will withdraw the punishment a little; but you will indeed revert [to your earlier ways]. (15) |
The day We shall strike with the most terrible striking, We will indeed take vengeance [on them].
Certainly We tried the people of Pharaoh before them, when a noble apostle came to them, (17) | وَلَقَدْ فَتَنَّا قَبْلَهُمْ قَوْمَ فِرْعَوْنَ وَجَاءَهُمْ رَسُولٌ كَرِيمٌ ﴿١٧﴾ |
[saying,] 'Give over the servants of Allah to me; indeed I am a trusted apostle [sent] to you.
Do not defy Allah. Indeed I bring you a manifest authority. (19) |
I seek the protection of my Lord and your Lord, lest you should stone me.
And if you do not believe me, keep out of my way.'
Then he invoked his Lord, [saying,] 'These are indeed a guilty lot.' (22) |
[Allah told him,] 'Set out with My servants by night; for you will indeed be pursued. (23) |
And leave the sea calmly; they will indeed be a drowned host.' (24) |
How many gardens and springs did they leave behind! (25) |
Fields and splendid places, (26) |
and the bounties wherein they rejoiced!
So it was; and We bequeathed them to another people.
So neither the sky wept for them, nor the earth; nor were they granted any respite. (29) |
Certainly We delivered the Children of Israel from a humiliating torment, (30) |
from Pharaoh. Indeed he was a tyrant among the profligates.
Certainly We chose them knowingly above all the nations. (32) |
And We gave them some signs in which there was a manifest test. (33) |
Indeed these ones say, (34) |
'It will be just our first death, and we shall not be resurrected. (35) |
Bring our fathers back [to life], should you be truthful.' (36) |
Are they better, or the people of Tubbaʿ, and those who were before them? We destroyed them; indeed they were guilty.
We did not create the heavens and the earth and whatever is between them for play. (38) |
We did not create them except with reason; but most of them do not know.
Indeed the Day of Judgement is the tryst for them all, (40) | إِنَّ يَوْمَ الْفَصْلِ مِيقَاتُهُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ ﴿٤٠﴾ |
the day when a friend will not avail a friend in any way, nor will they be helped, (41) | يَوْمَ لَا يُغْنِي مَوْلًى عَن مَّوْلًى شَيْئًا وَلَا هُمْ يُنصَرُونَ ﴿٤١﴾ |
except for him on whom Allah has mercy. Indeed He is the All-mighty, the All-merciful.
Indeed the tree of Zaqqūm (43) |
will be the food of the sinful.
Like molten copper it will boil in the bellies, (45) |
boiling like boiling water.
'Seize him and drag him to the middle of hell, (47) |
then pour over his head the punishment of boiling water.'
'Taste! Indeed you are the [self-styled] mighty and noble! (49) |
This is indeed what you used to doubt!' (50) |
Indeed the Godwary will be in a secure place, (51) |
dressed in fine silk and brocade, sitting face to face.
So shall it be, and We shall wed them to black-eyed houris. (54) |
There they will call for every fruit, in safety. (55) |
There they will not taste death except the first death, and He will save them from the punishment of hell (565) | لَا يَذُوقُونَ فِيهَا الْمَوْتَ إِلَّا الْمَوْتَةَ الْأُولَىٰ ۖ وَوَقَاهُمْ عَذَابَ الْجَحِيمِ ﴿٥٦﴾ |
—a grace from your Lord. That is the great success.
Indeed We have made it simple in your language, so that they may take admonition. (58) |
So wait! Indeed they [too] are waiting. (59)[1] |
