Text:Sura al-Qiyama
This is the text of al-Qiyama. For the related article see Sura al-Qiyama. |
In the Name of Allah, the All-beneficent, the All-merciful. |
I swear by the Day of Resurrection! (1) |
And I swear by the self-blaming soul! (2) |
Does man suppose that We shall not put together his bones? (3) |
Yes indeed, We are able to proportion [even] his fingertips! (4) |
Rather man desires to go on living viciously. (5) |
He asks, ‘When is this day of resurrection?!’ (6) |
But when the eyes are dazzled, (7) |
and the moon is eclipsed, (8) | وَخَسَفَ القَمَرُ(٨) |
and the sun and the moon are brought together, (9) | وَجُمِعَ الشَّمسُ وَالقَمَرُ(٩) |
that day man will say,
‘Where is the escape?’ (10) |
No indeed! There is no refuge! (11) |
That day the abode will be toward your Lord. (12) |
That day man will be informed about what he has sent ahead and left behind. (13) |
Rather man is a witness to himself, (14) |
though he should offer his excuses.
Do not move your tongue with it to hasten it.
Indeed it is up to Us to put it together and to recite it.
And when We have recited it, follow its recitation. (18) |
Then, its exposition indeed [also] lies with Us.
No Indeed! Rather you love this transitory life (20) | كَلّا بَل تُحِبّونَ العاجِلَةَ(٢٠) |
and forsake the Hereafter.
Some faces will be fresh on that day, (22) | وُجوهٌ يَومَئِذٍ ناضِرَةٌ(٢٢) |
looking at their Lord, (23) | إِلىٰ رَبِّها ناظِرَةٌ(٢٣) |
and some faces will be scowling on that day, (24) | وَوُجوهٌ يَومَئِذٍ باسِرَةٌ(٢٤) |
knowing that they will be dealt out a punishment breaking the spine.
No indeed! When the soul reaches up to the collar bones, (26) |
and it is said, ‘Who will take him up?’[1] (27) | وَقيلَ مَن ۜ راقٍ(٢٧) |
and he knows that it is the [time of] parting, (28) | وَظَنَّ أَنَّهُ الفِراقُ(٢٨) |
and each shank clasps the other shank,[2] (29) | وَالتَفَّتِ السّاقُ بِالسّاقِ(٢٩) |
that day he shall be driven toward your Lord.
He neither confirmed [the truth], nor prayed, (31) |
but denied [it] and turned away, (32) | وَلٰكِن كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلّىٰ(٣٢) |
and went swaggering to his family.
So woe to you! Woe to you!
Again, woe to you! Woe to you!
Does man suppose that he would be abandoned to futility? (36) |
Was he not a drop of emitted semen? (37) |
Then he became a clinging mass; then He created [him] and proportioned [him], (38) | ثُمَّ كانَ عَلَقَةً فَخَلَقَ فَسَوّىٰ(٣٨) |
and made of him the two sexes, the male and the female.
Is not such a one able to revive the dead?'[3] (40) |
Notes
- ↑ That is, by the angels of mercy and the angels of wrath present at the side of the dying person, as to which of them will take charge of him. Or those who are present by the side of the dying person say, ‘Where is the medicine man?’
- ↑ An idiom suggesting a time of great hardship, or, metaphorically, death throes.
