ʿĀmir b. Muslim al-ʿAbdī (Arabic:عامِر بن مُسلِم العَبدي) (d. 61/680) was among the companions of Imam al-Husayn (a) who was martyred in the Battle of Karbala.

His Name and Lineage

'Amir was son of Muslim from the families of 'Abd al-Qays.[1] According to Mamaqani, Muslim was martyred in the army of Imam Ali (a) in the Battle of Siffin.[2] Some have mentioned that his lineage reached 'Umayra b. Asad.[3] Some contemporary scholars say that, "He was Sa'di and from among the children of Hasan b. Shurayh b. Sa'd."[4] Some others believe that both titles of al-'Abdi and al-Sa'di are descendants of 'Adnan.[5]

Al-Shaykh al-Tusi has mentioned him among the companions of Imam al-Husayn (a) and considers him unknown.[6]

In the Battle of Karbala

'Amir was from Basra who joined Imam al-Husayn (a) in Mecca[7] together with his servant Salim the servant of 'Amir b. Muslim and Yazid b. Thubayt al-'Abdi. On the Day of 'Ashura, he was martyred in the first attack.[8] His name has been mentioned in the Ziyara al-Shuhada and Ziyara Rajabiyya of Imam al-Husayn (a).[9]
