Jabala b. ʿAlī al-Shaybānī (Arabic: جَبَلَة بن عَلي الشَیباني) was a martyr of Karbala. He was in the army of Imam Ali (a) in the Battle of Siffin and was also present in the uprising of Muslim b. 'Aqil in Kufa.
Before the Event of Karbala
Jabala b. 'Ali was from the Banu Shayban tribe (a branch of Bakr b. Wa'il).[1] He was deemed as a brave man from Kufa.[2] According to some sources, he was in Imam 'Ali's (a) army in the Battle of Siffin.[3] He accompanied Muslim b. 'Aqil in his uprising in Kufa.[4]
In the Event of Karbala
Before Muslim b. 'Aqil's martyrdom, Jabala went to his own tribe and hid there. When Imam al-Husayn (a) went to Karbala, he joined the Imam (a).[5] He was martyred in the first attack on the Day of Ashura.[6]
He is mentioned in the Ziyarat al-Shuhada: "peace be upon Jabala b. 'Ali al-Shaybani" (السَّلَامُ عَلَی جَبَلَةَ بْنِ عَلِی الشَّیبَانِی).
