Sermon of Lady Zaynab (a) was delivered upon entering of the caravan of the captives of Karbala to Kufa after the event of 'Ashura among the people of Kufa. In this sermon, Zaynab (a) admonished the people of Kufa because of their fault in the event of 'Ashura and their dereliction of duty in helping Imam al-Husayn (a) and spoke about their great crime.

Speaking of Zaynab (a)

It is reported that when the captives of Karbala were taken to Kufa, women showed great grief and mourned and men cried with them. Zayn al-'Abidin (a) who was ill, spoke with a weak voice, "they cry for us?! Then, who killed us [our people]?!" Then, Zaynab (a) addressed people, "Be silent!" and people become silent, and the bells of camels stopped. The reporter of the event said that, "I had never seen a woman more eloquent than her. It was as if Ali (a) was speaking."

She praised God and sent greetings upon His Messenger (a) and admonished people of Kufa for their dual behavior and their dereliction of duty in helping Imam (a) and promised them to have a great punishment for killing the Master of the Youths of the Paradise. After the sermon of Zaynab (a), people were stunned and agitated.[1]

Words of Imam al-Sajjad (a)

Imam al-Sajjad (a) told Zaynab (a), "O dear aunt, be calm! The destiny of the passed ones is an example for those who are remained. Praise be to God for you are knowledgeable without being taught and wise without education. Grief and mourning does not bring back to us those who are gone." By these words of Imam al-Sajjad (a), Zaynab (a) became calm and silent.[2]
