His Supplication in Seeking Refuge from Hateful Things, Bad Moral Qualities, and Blameworthy Acts | ( 8 )
In the Name of Allah, the All-beneficent, the All-merciful. |
1- O God, I seek refuge in Thee from the agitation of craving, | 1.
the violence of wrath, the domination of envy, | وَ سَوْرَةِ الْغَضَبِ ، وَ غَلَبَةِ الْحَسَدِ ، |
the frailty of patience, | وَ ضَعْفِ الصَّبْرِ ، |
the lack of contentment, surliness of character, | وَ قِلَّةِ الْقَنَاعَةِ ، وَ شَكَاسَةِ الْخُلُقِ ، |
urgency of passion, the disposition to vehemence, | وَ إِلْحَاحِ الشَّهْوَةِ ، وَ مَلَكَةِ الْحَمِيَّةِ |
2- following caprice, opposing guidance, | 2.
the sleep of heedlessness, undertaking the toilsome, | وَ سِنَةِ الْغَفْلَةِ ، وَ تَعَاطِي الْكُلْفَةِ ، |
making little of disobedience, making much of obedience, | وَ اسْتِصْغَارِ الْمَعْصِيَةِ ، وَ اسْتِكْبَارِ الطَّاعَةِ . |
3- vying with the wealthy, disparaging the poor, | 3.
guarding badly over those in our hands, | وَ سُوءِ الْوِلَايَةِ لِمَنْ تَحْتَ أَيْدِينَا ، |
failing to thank those who have done good to us, | وَ تَرْكِ الشُّكْرِ لِمَنِ اصْطَنَعَ الْعَارِفَةَ عِنْدَنَا |
4- aiding a wrongdoer, abandoning someone troubled, | 4.
wanting what is not rightfully ours, | أَوْ نَرُومَ مَا لَيْسَ لَنَا بِحَقٍّ ، |
and speaking about knowledge without knowing. |
5- We seek refuge in Thee from harbouring dishonesty toward anyone, | 5.
being pleased with our works, and stretching out our expectations. |
6- We seek refuge in Thee from ill-mindedness, | 6.
looking down on the small, | وَ احْتِقَارِ الصَّغِيرَةِ ، |
Satan's gaining mastery over us, | وَ أَنْ يَسْتَحْوِذَ عَلَيْنَا الشَّيْطَانُ ، |
time's afflicting us, and the sovereign's oppressing us.
7- We seek refuge in Thee from acting with prodigality and not having sufficiency. | 7. |
8- We seek refuge in Thee from the gloating of enemies, | 8.
living in hardship, and dying without readiness. |
9- We seek refuge in Thee from the most dreadful remorse, | 9.
the greatest affliction, the most wretched wretchedness, | وَ الْمُصِيبَةِ الْكُبْرَى ، وَ أَشْقَى الشَّقَاءِ ، |
the evil end to the journey, | وَ سُوءِ الْمَآبِ ، |
the deprivation of reward, and the advent of punishment. |
10- O God, bless Muhammad and his Household | 10.
and through Thy mercy, give to me refuge from all of that, | وَ أَعِذْنِي مِنْ كُلِّ ذَلِكَ بِرَحْمَتِكَ |
and to all the faithful, both men and women!
O Most Merciful of the merciful![1] | |
