| 21) His Supplication when Something Made him Sorrow and Offenses Made him Worry
|
(21) وَ كَانَ مِنْ دُعَائِهِ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ إِذَا حَزَنَهُ أَمْرٌ وَ أَهَمَّتْهُ الْخَطَايَا
|
| In the Name of Allah, the All-beneficent, the All-merciful.
|
بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمنِ الرَّحيمِ
|
| O God, bless Muhammad and his Household,
|
اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَ آلِهِ ،
|
| 1- O God, O Sufficer of the isolated and weak
|
1- اللَّهُمَّ يَا كَافِيَ الْفَرْدِ الضَّعِيفِ ،
|
| and Protector against terrifying affairs!
|
وَ وَاقِيَ الْأَمْرِ الْمَخُوفِ ،
|
| Offenses have isolated me, so there is none to be my companion.
|
أَفْرَدَتْنِي الْخَطَايَا فَلَا صَاحِبَ مَعِي ،
|
| I am too weak for Thy wrath and there is none to strengthen me.
|
وَ ضَعُفْتُ عَنْ غَضَبِكَ فَلَا مُؤَيِّدَ لِي ،
|
| I have approached the terror of meeting Thee
|
وَ أَشْرَفْتُ عَلَى خَوْفِ لِقَائِكَ
|
| and there is none to still my fear
|
فَلَا مُسَكِّنَ لِرَوْعَتِي
|
| 2- Who can make me secure from Thee when Thou hast filled me with terror?
|
2. وَ مَنْ يُؤْمِنُنِي مِنْكَ وَ أَنْتَ أَخَفْتَنِي ،
|
| Who can come to my aid
|
وَ مَنْ يُسَاعِدُنِي
|
| when Thou hast isolated me?
|
وَ أَنْتَ أَفْرَدْتَنِي ،
|
| Who can strengthen me when Thou hast weakened me?
|
وَ مَنْ يُقَوِّينِي وَ أَنْتَ أَضْعَفْتَنِي
|
| 3- None can grant sanctuary to a vassal, my God, but a lord,
|
3. لَا يُجِيرُ ، يَا إِلَهِي ، إِلَّا رَبٌّ عَلَى مَرْبُوبٍ ،
|
| none can give security to one dominated but a dominator,
|
وَ لَا يُؤْمِنُ إِلَّا غَالِبٌ عَلَى مَغْلُوبٍ ،
|
| none can aid him from whom demands are made but a demander.
|
وَ لَا يُعِينُ إِلَّا طَالِبٌ عَلَى مَطْلُوبٍ .
|
| 4- In Thy hand, my God, is the thread of all that,
|
4. وَ بِيَدِكَ ، يَا إِلَهِي ، جَمِيعُ ذَلِكَ السَّبَبِ ،
|
| in Thee the place of escape and flight,
|
وَ إِلَيْكَ الْمَفَرُّ وَ الْمَهْرَبُ ،
|
| so bless Muhammad and his Household,
|
فَصَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَ آلِهِ ،
|
| give sanctuary to me in my flight,
|
وَ أَجِرْ هَرَبِي ،
|
| and grant my request!
|
وَ أَنْجِحْ مَطْلَبِي .
|
| 5- O God, if Thou shouldst turn Thy generous face away from me,
|
5. اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّكَ إِنْ صَرَفْتَ عَنِّي وَجْهَكَ الْكَرِيمَ
|
| withhold from me Thy immense bounty,
|
أَوْ مَنَعْتَنِي فَضْلَكَ الْجَسِيمَ
|
| forbid me Thy provision,
|
أَوْ حَظَرْتَ عَلَيَّ رِزْقَكَ
|
| or cut off from me Thy thread,
|
أَوْ قَطَعْتَ عَنِّي سَبَبَكَ
|
| I will find no way to anything of my hope other than Thee
|
لَمْ أَجِدِ السَّبِيلَ إِلَى شَيْءٍ مِنْ أَمَلِي غَيْرَكَ ،
|
| nor be given power over what is with Thee through another's aid,
|
وَ لَمْ أَقْدِرْ عَلَى مَا عِنْدَكَ بِمَعُونَةِ سِوَاكَ ،
|
| for I am Thy servant and in Thy grasp; my forelock is in Thy hand.
|
فَإِنِّي عَبْدُكَ وَ فِي قَبْضَتِكَ ، نَاصِيَتِي بِيَدِكَ .
|
| 6- I have no command along with Thy command.
|
6. لَا أَمْرَ لِي مَعَ أَمْرِكَ ،
|
| Accomplished is Thy judgement of me,
|
مَاضٍ فِيَّ حُكْمُكَ ،
|
| just Thy decree for me!
|
عَدْلٌ فِيَّ قَضَاؤُكَ ،
|
| I have not the strength to emerge from Thy authority
|
وَ لَا قُوَّةَ لِي عَلَى الْخُرُوجِ مِنْ سُلْطَانِكَ ،
|
| nor am I able to step outside Thy power.
|
وَ لَا أَسْتَطِيعُ مُجَاوَزَةَ قُدْرَتِكَ ،
|
| I cannot win Thy inclination,
|
وَ لَا أَسْتَمِيلُ هَوَاكَ ،
|
| arrive at Thy good pleasure,
|
وَ لَا أَبْلُغُ رِضَاكَ ،
|
| or attain what is with Thee except through obeying Thee and through the bounty of Thy mercy.
|
وَ لَا أَنَالُ مَا عِنْدَكَ إِلَّا بِطَاعَتِكَ وَ بِفَضْلِ رَحْمَتِكَ .
|
| 7- O God, I rise in the morning and enter into evening
|
7. إِلَهِي أَصْبَحْتُ وَ أَمْسَيْتُ
|
| as Thy lowly slave.
|
عَبْداً دَاخِراً لَكَ ،
|
| I own no profit and loss for myself except through Thee.
|
لَا أَمْلِكُ لِنَفْسِي نَفْعاً وَ لَا ضَرّاً إِلَّا بِكَ ،
|
| I witness to that over myself
|
أَشْهَدُ بِذَلِكَ عَلَى نَفْسِي ،
|
| and I confess to the frailty of my strength and the paucity of my stratagems.
|
وَ أَعْتَرِفُ بِضَعْفِ قُوَّتِي وَ قِلَّةِ حِيلَتِي ،
|
| So accomplish what Thou hast promised me
|
فَأَنْجِزْ لِي مَا وَعَدْتَنِي ،
|
| and complete for me what Thou hast given me,
|
وَ تَمِّمْ لِي مَا آتَيْتَنِي ،
|
| for I am Thy slave, miserable, abased, frail, distressed, vile,
|
فَإِنِّي عَبْدُكَ الْمِسْكِينُ الْمُسْتَكِينُ الضَّعِيفُ الضَّرِيرُ الْحَقِيرُ
|
| despised, poor, fearful, and seeking sanctuary!
|
الْمَهِينُ الْفَقِيرُ الْخَائِفُ الْمُسْتَجِيرُ .
|
| 8- O God, bless Muhammad and his Household
|
8. اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَ آلِهِ ،
|
| and let me not forget to remember Thee in what Thou hast done for me,
|
وَ لَا تَجْعَلْنِي نَاسِياً لِذِكْرِكَ فِيمَا أَوْلَيْتَنِي ،
|
| be heedless of Thy beneficence in Thy trying me,
|
وَ لَا غَافِلًا لِإِحْسَانِكَ فِيمَا أَبْلَيْتَنِي ،
|
| or despair of Thy response to me, though it keep me waiting,
|
وَ لَا آيِساً مِنْ إِجَابَتِكَ لِي وَ إِنْ أَبْطَأَتْ عَنِّي ،
|
| whether I be in prosperity or adversity, hardship or ease,
|
فِي سَرَّاءَ كُنْتُ أَوْ ضَرَّاءَ ،
|
| well-being or affliction,
|
أَوْ شِدَّةٍ أَوْ رَخَاءٍ ،
|
| misery or comfort,
|
أَوْ عَافِيَةٍ أَوْ بَلَاءٍ ،
|
| in misery or blessing
|
أَوْ بُؤْسٍ أَوْ نَعْمَاءَ ،
|
| wealth or distress,
|
أَوْ جِدَةٍ أَوْ لَأْوَاءَ ،
|
| poverty or riches!
|
أَوْ فَقْرٍ أَوْ غِنًى .
|
| 9- O God, bless Muhammad and his Household,
|
9. اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَ آلِهِ ،
|
| make me laud Thee, extol Thee,
|
وَ اجْعَلْ ثَنَائِي عَلَيْكَ ، وَ مَدْحِي إِيَّاكَ ،
|
| and praise Thee in all my states
|
وَ حَمْدِي لَكَ فِي كُلِّ حَالَاتِي
|
| so that I rejoice not over what Thou givest me of this world
|
حَتَّى لَا أَفْرَحَ بِمَا آتَيْتَنِي مِنَ الدُّنْيَا ،
|
| nor sorrow over that of it which Thou withholdest from me!
|
وَ لَا أَحْزَنَ عَلَى مَا مَنَعْتَنِي فِيهَا ،
|
| Impart reverential fear of Thee to my heart,
|
وَ أَشْعِرْ قَلْبِي تَقْوَاكَ ،
|
| employ my body in that which Thou acceptest from me,
|
وَ اسْتَعْمِلْ بَدَنِي فِيمَا تَقْبَلُهُ مِنِّي ،
|
| and divert my soul through obedience to Thee from all that enters upon me,
|
وَ اشْغَلْ بِطَاعَتِكَ نَفْسِي عَنْ كُلِّ مَا يَرِدُ عَلَيَّ
|
| so that I love nothing that displeases Thee and become displeased at nothing that pleases Thee!
|
حَتَّى لَا أُحِبَّ شَيْئاً مِنْ سُخْطِكَ ، وَ لَا أَسْخَطَ شَيْئاً مِنْ رِضَاكَ.
|
| 10- O God, bless Muhammad and his Household,
|
10. اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَ آلِهِ ،
|
| empty my heart for Thy love,
|
وَ فَرِّغْ قَلْبِي لِمَحَبَّتِكَ ،
|
| occupy it with remembering Thee,
|
وَ اشْغَلْهُ بِذِكْرِكَ ،
|
| animate it with fear of Thee and quaking before Thee,
|
وَ انْعَشْهُ بِخَوْفِكَ وَ بِالْوَجَلِ مِنْكَ ،
|
| strengthen it with beseeching Thee,
|
وَ قَوِّهِ بِالرَّغْبَةِ إِلَيْكَ ،
|
| incline it to Thy obedience,
|
وَ أَمِلْهُ إِلَى طَاعَتِكَ ،
|
| set it running in the path most beloved to Thee,
|
وَ أَجْرِ بِهِ فِي أَحَبِّ السُّبُلِ إِلَيْكَ ،
|
| and subdue it through desire for what is with Thee all the days of my life!
|
وَ ذَلِّلْهُ بِالرَّغْبَةِ فِيمَا عِنْدَكَ أَيَّامَ حَيَاتِي كُلِّهَا .
|
| 11- Let my provision in this world be reverential fear of Thee,
|
11. وَ اجْعَلْ تَقْوَاكَ مِنَ الدُّنْيَا زَادِي ،
|
| my journey be toward Thy mercy,
|
وَ إِلَى رَحْمَتِكَ رِحْلَتِي ،
|
| and my entrance be into Thy good pleasure!
|
وَ فِي مَرْضَاتِكَ مَدْخَلِي ،
|
| Appoint for me a lodging in Thy Garden,
|
وَ اجْعَلْ فِي جَنَّتِكَ مَثْوَايَ ،
|
| give me strength to bear everything that pleases Thee,
|
وَ هَبْ لِي قُوَّةً أَحْتَمِلُ بِهَا جَمِيعَ مَرْضَاتِكَ ،
|
| make me flee to Thee
|
وَ اجْعَلْ فِرَارِي إِلَيْكَ ،
|
| and desire what is with Thee,
|
وَ رَغْبَتِي فِيمَا عِنْدَكَ ،
|
| clothe my heart in estrangement from the evil among Thy creatures,
|
وَ أَلْبِسْ قَلْبِيَ الْوَحْشَةَ مِنْ شِرَارِ خَلْقِكَ ،
|
| and give me intimacy with Thee,
|
وَ هَبْ لِيَ الْأُنْسَ بِكَ
|
| Thy friends, and those who obey Thee!
|
وَ بِأَوْلِيَائِكَ وَ أَهْلِ طَاعَتِكَ .
|
| 12- Assign to no wicked person or unbeliever a kindness toward me
|
12. وَ لَا تَجْعَلْ لِفَاجِرٍ وَ لَا كَافِرٍ عَلَيَّ مِنَّةً ،
|
| or a hand that obliges me,
|
وَ لَا لَهُ عِنْدِي يَداً ،
|
| nor to me a need for one of them!
|
وَ لَا بِي إِلَيْهِمْ حَاجَةً ،
|
| Rather make the stillness of my heart, the comfort of my soul,
|
بَلِ اجْعَلْ سُكُونَ قَلْبِي وَ أُنْسَ نَفْسِي
|
| my independence and my sufficiency
|
وَ اسْتِغْنَائِي وَ كِفَايَتِي
|
| lie in Thee and the best of Thy creatures!
|
بِكَ وَ بِخِيَارِ خَلْقِكَ .
|
| 13- O God, bless Muhammad and his Household,
|
13. اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَ آلِهِ ،
|
| make me their comrade,
|
وَ اجْعَلْنِي لَهُمْ قَرِيناً ،
|
| make me their helper,
|
وَ اجْعَلْنِي لَهُمْ نَصِيراً ،
|
| and oblige me with yearning for Thee
|
وَ امْنُنْ عَلَيَّ بِشَوْقٍ إِلَيْكَ ،
|
| and doing for Thee what Thou lovest and approvest!
|
وَ بِالْعَمَلِ لَكَ بِمَا تُحِبُّ وَ تَرْضَى ،
|
| Thou art powerful over everything
|
إِنَّكَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ ،
|
| and that is easy for Thee.[1]
|
وَ ذَلِكَ عَلَيْكَ يَسِيرٌ .
|
