Text:Twenty-fifth supplication of al-Sahifa al-Sajjadiyya

25) His Supplication for his Children	(25) وَ كَانَ مِنْ دُعَائِهِ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ لِوُلْدِهِ عَلَيْهِمُ السَّلَامُ
In the Name of Allah, the All-beneficent, the All-merciful.	بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمنِ الرَّحيمِ
1- O God, be kind to me through	1. اللَّهُمَّ وَ مُنَّ عَلَيَّ
the survival of my children, setting them right for me,	بِبَقَاءِ وُلْدِي وَ بِإِصْلَاحِهِمْ لِي
and allowing me to enjoy them!	و بِإِمْتَاعِي بِهِمْ .
2- My God, make long their lives for me,	2. إِلَهِي امْدُدْ لِي فِي أَعْمَارِهِمْ ،
increase their terms,	وَ زِدْ لِي فِي آجَالِهِمْ ،
bring up the smallest for me,	وَ رَبِّ لِي صَغِيرَهُمْ ،
strengthen the weakest for me,	وَ قَوِّ لِي ضَعِيفَهُمْ ،
rectify for me their bodies, their religious dedication, and their moral traits,	وَ أَصِحَّ لِي أَبْدَانَهُمْ وَ أَدْيَانَهُمْ وَ أَخْلَاقَهُمْ ،
make them well in their souls, their limbs,	وَ عَافِهِمْ فِي أَنْفُسِهِمْ وَ فِي جَوَارِحِهِمْ
and everything that concerns me of their affair,	وَ فِي كُلِّ مَا عُنِيتُ بِهِ مِنْ أَمْرِهِمْ ،
and pour out for me and upon my hand their provisions!	وَ أَدْرِرْ لِي وَ عَلَى يَدِي أَرْزَاقَهُمْ .
3- Make them pious, fearing,	3. وَ اجْعَلْهُمْ أَبْرَاراً أَتْقِيَاءَ
insightful, hearing, and obedient toward Thee,	بُصَرَاءَ سَامِعِينَ مُطِيعِينَ لَكَ ،
loving and well-disposed toward Thy friends,	وَ لِأَوْلِيَائِكَ مُحِبِّينَ مُنَاصِحِينَ ،
and stubbornly resistant and full of hate toward all Thy enemies! Amen!	وَ لِجَمِيعِ أَعْدَائِكَ مُعَانِدِينَ وَ مُبْغِضِينَ ، آمِينَ .
4- O God, through them strengthen my arm,	4. اللَّهُمَّ اشْدُدْ بِهِمْ عَضُدِي ،
straighten my burdened back,	وَ أَقِمْ بِهِمْ أَوَدِي ،
multiply my number,	وَ كَثِّرْ بِهِمْ عَدَدِي ،
adorn my presence,	وَ زَيِّنْ بِهِمْ مَحْضَرِي ،
keep alive my mention,	وَ أَحْيِ بِهِمْ ذِكْرِي ،
suffice me when I am away,	وَ اكْفِنِي بِهِمْ فِي غَيْبَتِي ،
help me in my needs,	وَ أَعِنِّي بِهِمْ عَلَى حَاجَتِي ،
and make them loving toward me,	وَ اجْعَلْهُمْ لِي مُحِبِّينَ ،
affectionate, approaching, upright,	وَ عَلَيَّ حَدِبِينَ مُقْبِلِينَ مُسْتَقِيمِينَ لِي ،
obedient, never disobedient, disrespectful, opposed, or offenders!	مُطِيعِينَ ، غَيْرَ عَاصِينَ وَ لَا عَاقِّينَ وَ لَا مُخَالِفِينَ وَ لَا خَاطِئِينَ .
5- Help me in their upbringing, their education, and my devotion toward them,	5. وَ أَعِنِّي عَلَى تَرْبِيَتِهِمْ وَ تَأْدِيبِهِمْ ، وَ بِرِّهِمْ ،
give me among them from Thyself male children,	وَ هَبْ لِي مِنْ لَدُنْكَ مَعَهُمْ أَوْلَاداً ذُكُوراً ،
make that a good for me,	وَ اجْعَلْ ذَلِكَ خَيْراً لِي ،
and make them a help for me in that which I ask from Thee!	وَ اجْعَلْهُمْ لِي عَوْناً عَلَى مَا سَأَلْتُكَ .
6- Give me and my progeny refuge from the accursed Satan,	6. وَ أَعِذْنِي وَ ذُرِّيَّتِي مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ الرَّجِيمِ ،
for Thou hast created us, commanded us, and prohibited us,	فَإِنَّكَ خَلَقْتَنَا وَ أَمَرْتَنَا وَ نَهَيْتَنَا
and made us desire the reward of what Thou hast commanded, and fear its punishment!	وَ رَغَّبْتَنَا فِي ثَوَابِ مَا أَمَرْتَنَا وَ رَهَّبْتَنَا عِقَابَهُ ،
Thou assigned to us an enemy who schemes against us,	وَ جَعَلْتَ لَنَا عَدُوّاً يَكِيدُنَا ،
gave him an authority over us in a way that Thou didst not give us authority over him,	سَلَّطْتَهُ مِنَّا عَلَى مَا لَمْ تُسَلِّطْنَا عَلَيْهِ مِنْهُ ،
allowed him to dwell in our breasts	أَسْكَنْتَهُ صُدُورَنَا ،
and let him run in our blood vessels;	وَ أَجْرَيْتَهُ مَجَارِيَ دِمَائِنَا ،
he is not heedless, though we be heedless,	لَا يَغْفُلُ إِنْ غَفَلْنَا ،
he does not forget, though we forget;	وَ لَا يَنْسَى إِنْ نَسِينَا ،
he makes us feel secure from Thy punishment and fills us with fear toward other than Thee.	يُؤْمِنُنَا عِقَابَكَ ، وَ يُخَوِّفُنَا بِغَيْرِكَ .
7- If we are about to commit an indecency, he gives us courage to do so,	7. إِنْ هَمَمْنَا بِفَاحِشَةٍ شَجَّعَنَا عَلَيْهَا ،
and if we are about to perform a righteous work, he holds us back from it.	وَ إِنْ هَمَمْنَا بِعَمَلٍ صَالِحٍ ثَبَّطَنَا عَنْهُ ،
He opposes us through passions,	يَتَعَرَّضُ لَنَا بِالشَّهَوَاتِ ،
and sets up for us doubts.	وَ يَنْصِبُ لَنَا بِالشُّبُهَاتِ ،
If he promises us, he lies,	إِنْ وَعَدَنَا كَذَبَنَا ،
and if he raises our hopes, he fails to fulfil them.	وَ إِنْ مَنَّانَا أَخْلَفَنَا ،
If Thou dost not turn his trickery away from us, he will misguide us,	وَ إِلَّا تَصْرِفْ عَنَّا كَيْدَهُ يُضِلَّنَا ،
and if Thou dost not protect us from his corruption, he will cause us to slip.	وَ إِلَّا تَقِنَا خَبَالَهُ يَسْتَزِلَّنَا .
8- O God, so defeat his authority over us through Thy authority,	8. اللَّهُمَّ فَاقْهَرْ سُلْطَانَهُ عَنَّا بِسُلْطَانِكَ
such that Thou holdest him back from us	حَتَّى تَحْبِسَهُ عَنَّا
through the frequency of our supplication to Thee	بِكَثْرَةِ الدُّعَاءِ لَكَ
and we leave his trickery and rise up among those preserved by Thee from sin!	فَنُصْبِحَ مِنْ كَيْدِهِ فِي الْمَعْصُومِينَ بِكَ .
9- O God, grant me my every request,	9. اللَّهُمَّ أَعْطِنِي كُلَّ سُؤْلِي ،
accomplish for me my needs,	وَ اقْضِ لِي حَوَائِجِي ،
withhold not from me Thy response when Thou hast made Thyself accountable for it to me,	وَ لَا تَمْنَعْنِي الْإِجَابَةَ وَ قَدْ ضَمِنْتَهَا لِي ،
veil not my supplication from Thyself, when Thou hast commanded me to make it,	وَ لَا تَحْجُبْ دُعَائِي عَنْكَ وَ قَدْ أَمَرْتَنِي بِهِ ،
and be kind to me through everything that will set me right in this world and the next,	وَ امْنُنْ عَلَيَّ بِكُلِّ مَا يُصْلِحُنِي فِي دُنْيَايَ وَ آخِرَتِي
in everything that I remember or forget,	مَا ذَكَرْتُ مِنْهُ وَ مَا نَسِيتُ ،
display or conceal,	أَوْ أَظْهَرْتُ أَوْ أَخْفَيْتُ
make public or keep secret!	أَوْ أَعْلَنْتُ أَوْ أَسْرَرْتُ .
10- In all of this, place me through my asking Thee among those who set things right, those who are answered favourably when they request from Thee	10. وَ اجْعَلْنِي فِي جَمِيعِ ذَلِكَ مِنَ الْمُصْلِحِينَ بِسُؤَالِي إِيَّاكَ ، الْمُنْجِحِينَ بِالطَّلَبِ إِلَيْكَ
and from whom is not withheld when they put their trust in Thee,	غَيْرِ الْمَمْنُوعِينَ بِالتَّوَكُّلِ عَلَيْكَ .
11- those accustomed to seek refuge in Thee,	11. الْمُعَوَّدِينَ بِالتَّعَوُّذِ بِكَ ،
those who profit through commerce with Thee,	الرَّابِحِينَ فِي التِّجَارَةِ عَلَيْكَ ،
those granted sanctuary through Thy might,	الْمُجَارِينَ بِعِزِّكَ ،
those given lawful provision in plenty from Thy boundless bounty	الْمُوَسَّعِ عَلَيْهِمُ الرِّزْقُ الْحَلَالُ مِنْ فَضْلِكَ ،
through Thy munificence and generosity,	الْوَاسِعِ بِجُودِكَ وَ كَرَمِكَ ،
those who reach exaltation after abasement through Thee,	الْمُعَزِّينَ مِنَ الذُّلِّ بِكَ ،
those granted sanctuary from wrong through Thy justice,	وَ الْمُجَارِينَ مِنَ الظُّلْمِ بِعَدْلِكَ ،
those released from affliction through Thy mercy,	وَ الْمُعَافَيْنَ مِنَ الْبَلَاءِ بِرَحْمَتِكَ ،
those delivered from need after poverty through Thy riches,	وَ الْمُغْنَيْنَ مِنَ الْفَقْرِ بِغِنَاكَ ،
those preserved from sins, slips, and offenses	وَ الْمَعْصُومِينَ مِنَ الذُّنُوبِ وَ الزَّلَلِ
through reverential fear toward Thee,	وَ الْخَطَاءِ بِتَقْوَاكَ ،
those successful in goodness, right conduct, and propriety through obeying Thee,	وَ الْمُوَفَّقِينَ لِلْخَيْرِ وَ الرُّشْدِ وَ الصَّوَابِ بِطَاعَتِكَ ،
those walled off from sins through Thy power,	وَ الْمُحَالِ بَيْنَهُمْ وَ بَيْنَ الذُّنُوبِ بِقُدْرَتِكَ ،
the refrainers from every act of disobedience toward Thee,	التَّارِكِينَ لِكُلِّ مَعْصِيَتِكَ ،
the dwellers in Thy neighbourhood!	السَّاكِنِينَ فِي جِوَارِكَ .
12- O God, give me all of that through Thy bestowal of success and Thy mercy,	12. اللَّهُمَّ أَعْطِنَا جَمِيعَ ذَلِكَ بِتَوْفِيقِكَ وَ رَحْمَتِكَ ،
grant us refuge from the chastisement of the burning,	وَ أَعِذْنَا مِنْ عَذَابِ السَّعِيرِ ،
and give to all the Muslims, male and female,	وَ أَعْطِ جَمِيعَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ وَ الْمُسْلِمَاتِ
and all the faithful, male and female,	وَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَ الْمُؤْمِنَاتِ
the like of what I have asked for myself and my children,	مِثْلَ الَّذِي سَأَلْتُكَ لِنَفْسِي وَ لِوُلْدِي
in the immediate of this world and the deferred of the next!	فِي عَاجِلِ الدُّنْيَا وَ آجِلِ الْآخِرَةِ ،
Verily Thou art the Near, the Responder,	إِنَّكَ قَرِيبٌ مُجِيبٌ
the All-hearing, the All-knowing,	سَمِيعٌ عَلِيمٌ
the Pardoner, the Forgiving,	عَفُوٌّ غَفُورٌ
the Clement, the Merciful!	رَءُوفٌ رَحِيمٌ .
13- And give to us in this world good,	13. وَ آتِنَا فِي الدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةً ،
and in the next world good,	وَ فِي الْآخِرَةِ حَسَنَةً
and protect us from the chastisement of the Fire!	وَ قِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ .
