Qārib b. ʿAbd Allāh b. Urayqiṭ (Arabic: قارب بن عبدالله بن اُرَیقِط) known as Qarib Mawla al-Husayn was a servant of Imam al-Husayn (a) and among the martyrs of Karbala. Qarib's father, 'Abd Allah b. Urayqit was the Prophet's (s) guide in the Prophet's (s) immigration to Medina. Qarib's mother was Imam al-Husayn's (a) maid.
His Lineage
Qarib's father, "Abd Allah b. Urayqit" was the Prophet's (s) guide in the Prophet's (s) immigration to Medina.[1] "Fakiha", Qarib's mother was Imam al-Husayn's (a) maid and worked in the house of Rabab, the wife of Imam (a).[2] Imam al-Husayn (a) asked her to marry Abd Allah Urayqit and after marriage, she gave birth to Qarib; therefore, Qarib was considered Imam's (a) servant.[3]
The Event of Karbala
In the uprising of Imam al-Husayn (a), Qarib accompanied Imam (a) from Medina to Mecca and from there to Karbala. It is said that he was martyred in the first attack of the enemy, before the noon of the day of Ashura. In the Ziyarah al-shuhada', it is mentioned,[4]
- "Peace be upon Qarib, servant of Husayn b. Ali (a)".
Fakiha, Qarib's mother, was present in the event of Karbala too and was among the captives.[5]
Like other martyrs of Karbala, his grave is in the Holy Shrine of Imam al-Husayn (a), near the tomb of the Imam (a).
